Outdoor fibre optic cables use a PE jacket and stainless steel armour for direct burial, duct pulling and aerial routes. The armour layer guards against rodent damage and crush loading, while gel-filled or dry water-blocking construction stops longitudinal water ingress. Fire regulations require PE-jacketed cable to be terminated within a limited distance of the building entry and transitioned to LS0H cable.
